Bishop Lamor Whitehead is becoming more of a news headline than a pastor.
The founder of Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries was once robbed on a live stream service for allegedly wearing jewelries worth half a million dollars.
In another instance, he got into a scuffle with a lady in the middle of a sermon.
And on Monday, he was arrested by US Federal authorities on charges of fraud and extortion, adding another feather to his long list of controversies.
But how did all this happen to a ‘man of God?’
The Brooklyn pastor was arrested for allegedly fleecing a 56-year-old parishioner of all her life savings, extorting a businessman and lying to Federal agents.
According to an indictment notice, the parishioner who was identified as victim 1, is Pauline Anderson who has a lawsuit pending against Whitehead alleging he duped her of $90, 000 worth of her retirement savings in exchange for helping her purchase a home that never came.
These allegations against the Bishop were first reported in July of 202w, days after Whitehead became famous for being robbed at gunpoint together with his wife, while delivering a sermon. Two of the three thieves that robbed him were arrested by authorities and charged in September.
Federal officers say Whitehead used Anderson’s money to purchase exorbitant luxury goods and clothes, and never helped her purchase a home, while ignoring her requests to return her money.
But that is not all. Whitehead unsuccessfully ran for Brooklyn borough president in 2021. Before that he served five years in a New York state prison after he was convicted of grand larceny and 15 instances of identity theft fraud in 2008.
His church, like others in the States, which have the word “international” in it, often attract folks from the Caribbean, Jamaica and those Island nations.
