The Owner of Chelsea Football Club of England, Roman Abramovich has handed over the running of the club to the board amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Asian nation had on Thursday launched an offensive against neighbouring Ukraine from land, air and sea.
The billionaire who made this announcement on Saturday is believed to be an avid supporter of President Vladimir Putin.
And on Thursday, Chris Bryant, a UK Lawmaker said the UK should seize his assets and bar him from owning the football club.
One of the foundation trustees Roman handed over to is, American lawyer Bruce Buck who is also chairman of the club as a whole.
In the statement, Roman who acquired Chelsea in 2003, said, “I have always viewed my role as a custodian of the club, whose job it is ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities,” he said in a statement.
“I have always taken decisions with the club’s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values.”
