Liverpool beat Chelsea to win 9th League Cup

Liverpool came out top when they faced Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday evening. The two English giants managed by two Germans, Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp played out a scintillating final that was rather devoid of goals, even as Liverpool dominated possession.

Joel Matip thought he had given the Merseysiders the lead with just twenty minutes to go, but the VAR ruled out the goal after replay showed Van Dijk had blocked a Chelsea player in the build up.Chelsea also had the ball in the net after that, but the VAR again chalked off the goal. Both keepers, Mendy for the Londoners and Keheller for the men in red, produced top saves to keep their sides in the game as it ended goalless after 90 minutes.Tuchel brought in Kepa to save penalties but the Spaniard ended up saving none, and when it came time for him to level things up in the shootout, he sent his kick to the stratosphere.Liverpool triumphed over Chelsea 11:10 on penalties, and with the win, they have reclaimed the top spot as the side with the highest League Cup wins, after it took City 4 straight wins to equal Liverpool’s long-standing record.
