Actor, Will Smith, has been banned by the the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the umbrella body that organises the Oscars, from showing up at the event for a decade.
This was announced on Friday, after a board of governors meeting.
The meeting which as scheduled to hold on 18th April, was brought back after Smith announced that he has left the Academy, after his fracas with Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars award show.
“The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,” said president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson in a letter.
The Academy, however, did not revoke Will Smith’s Oscar win, as many had thought.
The Hollywood’s top film group also apologized, stating that they “did not adequately address the situation in the room,” and thanked Rock for maintaining his composure onstage.
