Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has filed a petition against Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party.
People’s Gazette reports that Nyesom Wike, together with Michael Ekamon, another PDP member, also included the Independent National Electoral Commission, the People’s Democratic Party and Aminu Tambuwal in the lawsuit.
It was gathered that the different parties were served notices since July 1st, with the PDP responding to the notice of summon on July 5th.
In the suit, Wike who came second in the Party’s primary election is demanding recognition as the Party’s presidential flagbearer, instead of Atiku.
Since the May 28 People’s Democratic Party primaries that led to the announcement of Atiku Abubakar as the Party’s flagbearer and his subsequent choice of Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate, instead of Nyesom Wike, as many had thought, the relationship between Atiku and the Rivers State Governor has gone from bad to worse.
A meeting between the two that was held last week failed to settle the matter between the winner and the 1st runner up of the May PDP convention.
Efforts on Thursday to reach the Independent National Electoral Commission and the camp of the former vice president, Atiku in order to confirm the suit were unsuccessful.
