A chieftain of APC and former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu has disclosed that he did his possible best to make sure that his brother, Mascot Kalu didn’t leave the APC. Mascot Kalu is the governorship candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Abia. He left the APC after losing the House of Representatives by-election for the Aba north and south federal constituency in 2020.
While speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Orji Kalu disclosed that he got several APC chieftains to try and convince his brother to remain in the party. He said before his brother defected, he told Chief Ikechi Emenike the governorship candidate of the APC in Abia that he would have problems if his brother leaves the party because of his brother’s popularity and accomplishment as a one-time Chief of Staff to Governor T.A Orji.
In Orji Kalu’s exact words: “I called the governorship candidate, I called him here and I said the greatest challenge you will have as a governorship candidate if my brother broke out of the party (sic), if he gets away you will have problems. Because he (Mascot Kalu) was once a chief of staff to a particular governor and he has his own spread as I do”.
