The Labour Party in Lagos had decried what is being observed to be a frivolous plot against the their candidate in the upcoming election by INEC. It was observed that INEC on Wednesday took delivery of sensitive materials for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections scheduled for Saturday. Meanwhile, the LP’s NASS and Senate candidates were omitted on ballots.
Responding to the ugly development, the Chairperson of LP in Lagos State, Dayo Ekong at a news conference in Ikeja, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to postpone and reschedule the election until the party’s candidates duly included on the ballots. Further speaking she said as Nigerians prepare to go to the polls on Saturday to elect a new president and members of House of Representatives, the LP has denounces in it entirety the flagrant exclusion of the Labour Party candidates on the ballot papers.
She explained that this malicious “error” was detected earlier Friday in Lagos by team of executive members during the routine inspection of election materials. When we conducted an inspection that it was discovered that the Labour Party was not listed for the election for Senate and House of Representatives in Lagos State. This is unacceptable and a wicked way of disenfranchising Lagos electorates, she has noted. Further findings on the INEC website revealed that the list of names of Lagos Labour Party National Assembly candidates was not uploaded. “Even as the list and court orders for the same were duly submitted to INEC and acknowledged.” Lamented that even the INEC has joined opposition to mare the chances of the party that is widely accepted by the people.
More so, severally pointed out the bias displayed by the current INEC REC in Lagos State towards Laour Party and the increasing attacks on our leaders that have constantly pointed out these biases in the past and current onslaught on our Party.
