Governor Dapo Abiodun Of Ogun State has said his administration will not hesitate to shut down any commercial bank that rejects the old naira notes in the state.
On February 14, 2023, the governor issued a caution after hearing rumours that certain banks were refusing old notes from customers after the February 10 deadline specified by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Speaking to vendors at Itoku Kampala market in Abeokuta, Abiodun criticised the banks’ behaviour and demanded that if the new notes were unavailable, they accept the old ones in order to lessen the pain of the populace.
He consequently pleaded with the populace to maintain their composure and said that his government was working to put the situation under control.
