Nigeria’s Minister of Information & Culture, Lai Mohammed has given his verdict over the latest Corruption Perception Index (CPI) report by Transparency International (TI) that placed Nigeria on the 150th position.
According to the research, which was published on February 1, 2023, Nigeria is one of the most corrupt nations in the world, ranking 150th out of 180.
Nigeria slipped four positions in the list according to the most recent Corruption Perception Index.
However, the Minister of Information faulted the report saying President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is not fighting corruption to impress Transparency International.
The Minister said: “We’re fighting corruption because we believe if we don’t fight corruption, there’ll be no growth, either in terms of the economy or even politics. Therefore, what we do and what we have put in place to fight corruption is not because we want to be rated by anybody.
“Corruption fighting is not just by how many people have you arrested or how many people have you tried or how many people have you convicted,” he concluded.
