Ghana defeated Nigeria 4-2 in the final of the maiden WAFU B U20 Women’s Championship to lift the title on Saturday night in Kumasi.
After a 1-1 draw at the regulation time, both sides went into penalties where Ghana U20 girls were able to convert three kicks while the Falconets were able to convert just one to pick the silver medal.
In the 3rd place match played earlier, Burkina Faso beat Benin Republic 2-1 to become third best team in the championship hosted by Ghana. The U20 women’s tourney was organised by the West African Football Union and the maiden edition was hosted by Ghana.
Comfort Yeboah, Stella Nyamekye, and Mary Amposha converted their penalties for Ghana while Georgina Ayisha and Helen Alormenu failed to score from the spots.
For Nigeria, Chidimma ogbuchi, Flourish sabastine and Esther chinemerem lost their kicks but
Mercy Kalu scored to end the scoreline at 4-2.
