Victor Osimhen played for 76 minutes and scored a brilliant goal as his side Napoli defeated 2-1 Roma in Serie A Matchday 20 fixture at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples on Sunday night.
The Naples based team, who hoped to extend their lead at the top of the Serie A table, began the encounter against Roma 10 points clear of second place Inter Milan.
After a bright start from the host, striker Victor Osimhen scored in his third consecutive league game after receiving a precious pass from teammate Khvicha Kvaratskahelia and brilliantly controlling the ball from his chest to his kneel before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net in the 17th minute.
The goal equalled the Nigerian international’s tally for the most goals scored by the 24-year-old in Europe top five league after scoring 14 goals in 27 appearances last season.
Jose Mourinho’s men tried coming into the game after the break and got a reward for their consistent pressure through substitute Stephan El Shaarawy to tie the scoreline 1-1 with 15 minutes left on the clock.
Napoli then pushed for a winner and super-sub Giovanni Simeone scored the winner in the 86th minute after collecting a pass from his teammate and shooting into the top right corner.
The victory over Mourinho’s defensive side gave Napoli their 17th win in 20 league games this season as they went 13 points clear at the top of the table.
