In keeping with the new-found love for making everything to be about LGBTQ-yes the LGBTQ community is the new global emergency- the United States have announced that their football players will wear LGBTQ colours at the World Cup.
Teams in Europe, like England, have announced that captain armbands will be LGBTQ colours. But not the USA, where the whole badge is going to be changed from the blue, red and white stripes that adorn the American flag to rainbow colours.
The World Cup starts on Sunday but the United States will not play until Monday, when they take on Wales.
Qatar authorities have maintained that homosexuality has no place in their country.
But instead of completely boycotting the World Cup which will send a better message that they stand against Qatar’s human rights abuses, the United States and other Western nation States have opted for superficial ways of protesting. Other nations like Belgium have opted for faded badges.
The walls of the Al Gharrafa SC Stadium in Ar-Rayyan, where the US Team is training have been dressed in the rainbow emblem with the caption “one nation,” branded on it.
Neil Buethe, the USMNT’s Chief Communications Officer, told Daily Mail that “Our rainbow badge has an important and consistent role in the identity of U.S. Soccer.
“As part of our approach for any match or event, we include rainbow branding to support and embrace the LGBTQ community, as well as to promote a spirit of inclusiveness and welcoming to all fans across the globe.
“As a result, locations that we will manage and operate at the FIFA World Cup, such as the team hotel, media areas and parties, will feature both traditional and rainbow U.S. Soccer branding.”
