Manchester United have the slight advantage in their heavyweight Europa League clash with Barcelona after a 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou.
It is 15 years since United last got the better of the Spanish giants, a run that has included Champions League final defeats in 2009 and 2011. Marcos Alonso headed the hosts in front shortly after the break as Barcelona landed the first blow of the play-off round tie.
United responded superbly though and within nine minutes had the lead themselves. Marcus Rashford continued his sensational form to score from a seemingly impossible angle, before playing a huge role in Jules Kounde’s own goal.
Barcelona wanted a penalty late on, after the ball appeared to hit Fred’s arm in the box.
The Brazilian didn’t move his arm towards the ball though, and it hit him at close range. Referee and then VAR not interested.
Barcelona could not hold on for a famous win, as Raphinha’s cross found a way through everyone and beyond David de Gea, but United will fancy their chances of getting the job done at Old Trafford next week.
