Nigeria U-20 side, Flying Eagles have sealed their place in the semi-finals of the ongoing U-20 AFCON and also qualification to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia with 1-0 win over Uganda.
The quarter final encounter which was held at the Suez Canal Stadium Ismailia in Egypt saw the seven-time African champions defeat the Hippos of Ugandan through a first half own goal on the half hour mark.
Ladan Bosso’s men whose aim going into the tournament was to clinch World Cup qualification started on the front foot against the group B leaders with a short well saved by Uganda goalkeeper.
The movement of magic came in the 30th minutes after a long ball from Nigeria’s defense was misjudged my a Ugandan defender, Ibrahim Muhammed then picked up the ball and fire a shot which went straight into the near post and unto Ibrahim Juma’s path who couldn’t resist the ball from entering his own net, a goal which came through pure luck.
Despites chances from both teams after the goal, Nigeria went on to seal the victory with the own goal and moved into the semi-finals.
Bosso’s men who finished second from group A will hope to continue their chase for a record eight AFCON title as they will face the winner of South Sudan Vs Gambia who play on Friday.
