President Bola Tinubu undertakes significant reshuffle of Nigeria’s security landscape, retiring service chiefs and Customs boss, and appointing Ribadu, Egbetokun, and others.
In a notable development on Monday, President Bola Tinubu implemented a major reorganization of Nigeria’s security structure, promptly retiring all service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.
The changes also affected special advisers and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service. According to a statement released by the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, Major General Christopher Musa, formerly the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, has taken over from General Lucky Irabor as the Chief of Defence Staff.
Likewise, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja now assumes the position of Chief of Army Staff, succeeding Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya. Air Vice Marshal H.B Abubakar has been appointed as the new Chief of Air Staff, replacing Air Marshal Oludayo Amao, while Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla is set to take over from Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo as the Chief of Naval Staff.
It’s worth noting that President Buhari originally appointed Irabor, Amao, Gambo, and the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, on January 26, 2021. Following Attahiru’s tragic demise in a plane crash, Yahaya was appointed on May 27, 2021, to take his place.
Additionally, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has been named the acting Inspector-General, while Major General EPA Undiandeye serves as the acting Chief of Defence Intelligence.
