Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, is reportedly the worst civilian governor in the history of Lagos state, according to Mr. Phrank Shaibu, Atiku Abubakar’s personal assistant on public relations. In a statement on Sunday, January 15, Shaibu, one of the PDP presidential candidate’s media aides, stated as much.
Lateef Jakande, who served as governor of Lagos from 1979 to 1983, is the best governor, in Shaibu’s opinion.
Tinubu is not the best thing to come out of Lagos. The late Lateef Jakande, a disciple of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, holds that title. Jakande completely rebuilt the Lekki-Epe Expressway, which opened up the Lekki Peninsula axis. Lagos State University (LASU), the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, and the Alausa Government Secretariat were all built by Jakande (NIJ). “He constructed every affordable housing unit in Lagos. Affordable estates can be found in Amuwo-Odofin, Ijaiye, Dolphin, Oke-Afa, Ije, Abesan, Iponri, Ipaja, Abule Nla, Epe, Anikantamo, Surulere, Iba, Ikorodu, and Badagry, among other places.
“Jakande constructed LASUTH in addition to all of the general hospitals in Gbagada and Ikorodu. In the state, he also constructed 20 health facilities. Jakande also built the majority of Lagos’ still-standing primary and secondary schools.”
Phrank continued by saying that fact-checkers had refuted Tinubu’s assertions that he had increased his internal revenue from N600 million in 1999 to N5 billion per month. “Tinubu’s plan is founded on lies,” he continued. “He portrays the Lagos he took over as a desolate wilderness and then exaggerates the meager accomplishments he made during his eight years in office, but Nigerians must not be fooled.”
“It’s interesting to note that Tinubu moved the Lagos State Polytechnic from Ketu to Ikorodu while Jakande invested in schools and afterwards gave the site to TVC, his television station. There is a distinction between leaders and dealers, in fact.”
Shaibu stated that Babatunde Fashola, Tinubu’s replacement as governor of Lagos, performed significantly better than him overall, particularly in the field of infrastructure. He continued by saying that despite serving a single four-year term as governor of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode, who is accountable for Fashola, was still superior to Tinubu.
He said: “Tinubu continues to take credit for the work of others even though he himself was a failure in government. “He counts 1999 to 2023 as his tenure as Lagos state governor therefore appropriating the achievement of other governors and then promises to carry out their exploits on a national level.”
