President Bola Tinubu, speaking at a meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Sunday, emphasized Africa’s commitment to preventing the recurrence of past coups on the continent.
Tinubu, who was recently elected as the Chairman of the League of ECOWAS Presidents, highlighted Africa’s dedication to upholding democracy and the rule of law.
Tinubu made these remarks during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the regional bloc, which took place in Guinea-Bissau’s capital, Bissau.
Speaking, Tinubu stressed, “We will not allow coup after coup in Africa again.
“We will take democracy seriously with African Union and extend the same to the European Union including Britain and America.
“Democracy is very tough to manage but it is the best form of government and we all ascribed to it,” the Nigerian leader said after he received handover documents from the outgoing chairman who is Guinea-Bissau’s President, Umaro Embaló.
