Premier League new boys, Nottingham Forest hosted West Ham United on Sunday in what was their second game of the new campaign.
And after failing to muster a shot on target last week against a resurgent Newcastle side, Steve Cooper’s men left all their hearts on the pitch.
It wasn’t perfect but it was enough to brush aside David Moyes’ men, who had hoped to torment the new boys after receiving a thorough beating at the hands of League champions, Manchester City.
Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game before Declan Rice hit a penalty directly into the arms of Dean Henderson.
Nottingham Forest, one of England’s most historic and successful clubs made a statement with this win and with this kind of performance, Steve Cooper reassured the fans at the City Stadium and indeed the other 19 teams in the league that their promotion was no fluke.
This was Nottingham’s first Premier League victory in 23 years.
