Nigerian forward, Taiwo Awoniyi has signed for English side, Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £17.5m.
Forest confirmed the deal on Saturday.
The former Nigeria Under-17 winner scored twenty goals for German side, Hertha Berlin across all competitions, during a season that saw them qualify for the Europa League for the first time since 2001, as they finished 5th.
The 24-year-old signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in 2015, following his Nigerian side’s gold medal at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
However, he didn’t make a single appearance for the Reds, with a series of loan deals ensuing- 7 in total. And in 2021, Liverpool sold him to Hertha Berlin where he spent the previous season on loan.
“I’m very excited to be here at Nottingham Forest,” said Awoniyi following his move to The City Ground. “It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League and having spoken to Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it’s a club that I want to be part of.
Head Coach Steve Cooper added: “There’s been a lot of interest in Taiwo from other Premier League clubs, and other clubs across Europe, so we’re delighted that he’s chosen Nottingham Forest.
“Our recruitment and coaching teams have been monitoring his progress closely over the last few months. He’s a player who we really believe in and we look forward to him going on to fulfil his potential and become a top Premier League striker with Nottingham Forest.”
