One Umar Farouk has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for laptops theft.
The 23-year-old student who resides at Jahi, Abuja, was brought before a Kado Grade 1 Area Court in Nigeria’s capital.
The prosecution, Mr Edwin Ochayi, narrated how Mr Sadiq Aroke of Lugbe Abuja, who is also the Manager of Prized Photos Jabi Shoprite, reported the incident of shop theft to the police on July 27.
Ochayi told the court that Farouk shoplifted two computers from his photo shop on April 5, around 8:50pm.
According to him, CCTV footage showed how the suspect carefully picked two Hewlett Packard laptops worth N225,000 and the other N100,000, after he succeeded in stealing the office keys which gave him access.
Farouk who pleaded guilty to charges of criminal trespass and theft, was sentenced to 6 months jail term by presiding judge, Mohammed Wakili Justice.
He said, “Farouk is hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option to pay N10, 000 fine,’’ Wakili pronounced.
