Manchester United were unable to find a way past Newcastle United on Sunday as they recorded another unwanted history.
Newcastle saw the better of the first-half but it was United who looked sharper in the second – although neither side had quite the necessary quality to score a breakthrough goal and take what was a pretty flat, unexciting game by the scruff of its neck.
Ronaldo was unable to get a goal, instead picking up a yellow card and was eventually replaced by Marcus Rashford on 72 minutes. Rashford had a great chance to win the game at the death, but was unable to convert.
This was Manchester United’s 76th Premier League goalless draw, 31 of which have come since Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 (41%) – the most of any side in the competition since the start of 2013-14.
