Roberto Martinez has been appointed as the new Head coach of Portugal.
Martinez stepped down as the manager of Belgium after their group stage exit at the Qatar World Cup.
Martinez succeeds Fernando Santos who left the role after 8 years in charge, after last month’s World Cup as well.
Martinez has managed Everton, Wigan with whom he won the FA Cup in 2013. He has managed Belgium in 80 games and has won 56bof those. He has lost 11 and drawn 13.
He led Belgium to the semifinal at the 2018 World Cup where they lost to eventual winners France.
He also led them to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 where they lost to eventual winners Italy.
In managing the so-called golden generation, he also helped them get to the top of the FIFA World rankings for sometime.
