One Bishop Felix Duruebube of the Mercy House Church International, Eliozu near Port Harcourt has been imprisoned for failing to meet conditions for bail.
The Bishop was granted bail on Monday by a magistrate Court in Port Harcourt, after he was arraigned for rape and for forcing his victim, a 16-year-old girl to take an oath.
He was initially arraigned for the two count charges of defilement and forcing the girl to take an oath with him, all of which he pleaded no guilty to.
However, because he was unable to meet the bail conditions which stipulated that he immediately provides N2 million surety, he was remanded in the Correctional Facility in Port Harcourt.
On her part, the Chairperson of International Federation of Female Lawyers,FIDA in Rivers State, Adata Bio-Briggs, told newsmen that she came under intense pressure from religious leaders to drop the case.
She urged Christians to test the spirits behind supposed men of God before following them, while cautioning the church against always trying to cover up the misdeeds of pastors.
