The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu was again absent at the signing of the peace accords as the campaigns have officially commenced.
Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Omoyele Sowore of the ADC, Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP and Peter Obi of Labour Party were all present but Tinubu was represented by his running mate, Shettima Kashim.
There has been rumours that Tinubu is currently in London for a health checkup, something that has been a recurring theme ever since he said it is his turn to rule Nigeria.
Sowore who still believes he stands a chance was however seen occupying the bench roll behind the trio of Atiku, Shettima and Obi, right next to Baba Yusuf Datti, Obi’s running mate.
The event was hosted at the International Conference Centre in Abuja and is supposed supposed be attended by everyone running for the office of president in the forthcoming General elections.
Also present was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Dioecese, Matthew Kukah; the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, former Head of State, Abdusalami Abubakar, amongst others.
The IGP of Police, Usman Baba also delivered a speech, calling on the contestants to maintain peace. There was also a European Union representative present, who addressed the gathering.
