Worried by problems of water shortage in some areas, Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Sunday, visited some communities in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Area, during which he ordered the State Ministry of Water Resources to ensure quick restoration of supply to the communities.
Places visited by the governor include: Old Maiduguri, Kawar Maila and Gidan Yashi.
The governor interacted with residents in all the communities to get first-hand information and gave assurances of his administration’s commitment to addressing the difficulty faced by residents.
Zulum explained that the water scarcity was caused by the global energy crisis and urged residents to understand the complexities associated with the phenomenon.
“I am aware of the water scarcity faced across the metropolis and environs. I want to assure you that we are working tirelessly to come up with quick solutions to the problems. We will be on our toes until these issues are addressed, insha’Allah”, Zulum said.
Meanwhile, in the course of assessing water facilities at Old Maiduguri, Zulum inspected a two-kilometer drainage, aimed at preventing flooding during upcoming rainy season. Zulum hinted that government will soon undertake more flood control projects and make concerted efforts against perennial floods affecting the communities.
