The All Progressives Congress (APC), Benue South senatorial candidate for the 2023 election, Daniel Onjeh, on Monday, met his rival at the 2016 senatorial rerun, Senator David Mark.
Mark, Nigeria’s former and longest serving senate president, defeated Onjeh at the 2016 Benue south senatorial rerun.
The former Senate President was and still regarded as the political leader of the Benue South and one of the leaders in North Central Nigeria in general.
Onjeh was considered an enemy of Mark, who is also like a father to him, for daring to challenge the former military governor of Niger State and ex- communications minister.
The re-run election followed a Court of Appeal’s judgment which nullified the election of Senator Mark as the Senator representing the zone in an earlier election held on March 28, 2015.
Mark retired from the Senate in 2019 after 20 years at the red chambers.
Since the 2016 rerun election, there have not been any report of Mark and Onjeh meeting.
In a short post on his facebook on Monday, accompanied with pictures, Onjeh said, the race was to serve the people of Benue South and not to hamstring each other.
He said, “Sportsmanship NOT gamesmanship. The race was to serve the good people of Benue South NOT to hamstring each other. In that sense, we find congruence.
“Yesterday, I had the honour and privilege of meeting our father, Distinguished Senator David Mark (two-time Senate President) at his daughter’s birthday party. She is the APC’s flag-bearer for the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives and she currently occupies the seat.”
