According to the Lagos State Government, the N1.2 billion paid as pension to retirees was not done to court support ahead of the March 18 gubernatorial election.
This was in response to some social media users who had criticised the revelation of the payout to 534 retirees, believing the action to be political.
Jubril Gawat, the senior special assistant to the governor of Lagos State for new media, responded by pointing out that pension payments are made in the state practically every month.
He tweeted, “Pension bond certificate issuance is done practically almost every month. It’s a specified process. Not for election. And Lagos has been one of the most consistent states across the nation.”
