As the state’s governorship election petition panel resumed sitting on Friday for the approval of final written addresses, there is a significant security presence at the Osun State High Court.
The result of the July 16 Osun State governorship election that produced Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is being challenged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Gboyega Oyetola.
Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC’s director of media and information, alerted the public on Thursday to an alleged plot to incite violence when the sitting resumes on Friday.
“I am depending on that statement I made because information suggests that some people are getting ready to commit acts of violence,” he said.
However, Mr. Akindele said that the APC, not his party, was responsible for the scheme.
Residents of the state are fearful as a result of the two parties’ counterclaims.
However, protection will be provided both inside and outside the tribunal venue, according to the police and other security organizations.
Staff from the State Security Service, police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) were present at the court gate when our reporter arrived there on Friday morning.
Additionally, there were armed security guards posted in key locations around the courthouse.
When people and cars entered the court grounds, they were stopped, interrogated, and searched.
Party loyalists were issued numbers and ordered to file into the courtroom on a long queue.
