Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has urged Nigerians to remain calm and unified, emphasizing that the criticism she received regarding her photo with President Tinubu was unwarranted.
She pointed out that the contentious issue surrounding the delayed posting of her picture with President Tinubu on her Twitter account reflects the deep divisions among Nigerians.
Okonjo-Iweala responded to social media comments concerning her photos with other world leaders during the recently concluded Paris Economic Summit, as well as her photo with President Tinubu.
Certain individuals criticized the WTO leader for not including a picture of President Bola Tinubu in her tweets showcasing her meetings with various heads of state on Friday.
She eventually shared her photo with Tinubu on Saturday morning, where she also stated that the controversy has exposed the extent of polarization within Nigeria.
Her tweet reads: “Nigerians, please relax! Re Paris, Interesting attacks from both sides. This sadly shows the depth of polarization in our society.
“I post photos in the order received by accompanying staff or colleagues. Reading more into it is unwarranted. Let’s unite to build our country, not attack.”
