According to ex-President Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo, the appointment of the duo of Dr Ngozi-Okonjo Iwela as Minister of Finance and Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as Governor of the Central Bank, was among the best he made during his administration.
This was mentioned by Obasanjo on Saturday in Awka during the town hall meeting commemorating Soludo’s first year in office as governor of Anambra.
He claimed that because he appointed the two technocrats from the Southeast, ‘Igbophobes’ accused him of possibly wrecking the nation, despite the fact that they oversaw the best economic period in the nation’s history.
He also praised Soludo for his work as CBN governor and attributed the current financial crisis to the bank’s incapacity to carry out its role as a development bank.
Obasanjo praised Soludo’s explanation of his one-year stewardship and declared that he had no doubts about Soludo’s ability to serve as the governor of Anambra.
Although he had the opportunity to serve at the national and international levels, Soludo chose to run for governor, according to the elder statesman. Soludo was described as a man with a great passion for Anambra.
He exhorted Soludo to keep up his efforts in the agricultural field and endeavour to establish Anambra as the nation’s centre for the production of palm and cassava.
Obasanjo pleaded with the Anambra people to continue to support Soludo so that he could carry out the state’s honourable objectives.
