The People’s Democratic Party has issued an ultimatum to its first ever president, Olusegun Obasanjo, asking him to clarify some ambiguous comments he made about Atiku Abubakar.
Obasanjo had a fallout with his former VP during his 8 year term between 1999 and 2007.
Long after the two left office, they still do not get along very much, with Obasanjo saying recently that he regrets picking a running mate back in 1999.
“One thing that has happened to me is that God has never disappointed me and that is very important. For instance, one of the mistakes I made was picking a number two when I was going to become president,” Obasanjo said.
However, the PDP feels the octogenarian’s issues with the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, revolve around his VP opposing his then third term agenda.
This made the chairman of the PDP board of trustees (BoT), Walid Jibrin, to tell Obasanjo to clarify his statement within 48 hours.
Adding that, “There is no doubt Obasanjo may still be angry with Atiku even after helping him to succeed but perhaps becuase he truncated his third term agenda, in any case, Alhaji Abubakar Atuku is our presidential candidate and I can tell you for sure that he will be the President in 2023 insha Allah.”
