Bendel Insurance wrote their names on Nigerian premier league’s history books on Saturday after a goalless draw against Lobi stars at the ongoing super six in Lagos.
The Benin Arsenals who were on an 18 game winning streak in the league, extended their tally to 19 league games after battling with Benue based club Lobi stars in the last game of the week one.
Both teams created enough chances to win the game but were let down by their poor finishing.
Insurance set a new record for the longest unbeaten run in the Nigerian top-flight following the stalemate at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos. Equalling and surpassing Akwa United’s 18 games unbeaten record which they recorded in their title winning season in 2021.
The 2023 Nigerian FA Cup finalist are now unbeaten in all competitions this season racking up a total of 24 games on without defeat since gaining promotion back to the league after four years absence.
It was the only game that failed to produce a goal on day one of the Nigeria Premier League Super Six playoffs.
Enyimba and Remo Stars battled to a 2-2 draw in the first game of the day.
Holders Rivers United defeated Sunshine Stars 1-0.
Insurance next game is against Sunshine Stars on Tuesday.
Lobi Stars will also take on eight-time champions Enyimba same day.
