Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) Champions Rivers United, go top of group B after beating Niger Tornadoes 2-1 in a Matchday three encounter in Port Harcourt on Tuesday evening.
The Pride of Rivers who are still on an unbeaten run in the league this season played host to Niger Tornadoes who entered the encounter on same points with the host.
Rivers United’s defender Enyinnaya Kazie put the host in fron just seven minutes on the clock after connecting well with a corner kick.
Niger Tornadoes then leveled matters in the 29th minute through Waheed Adebayo who beat Seidu Mutawakilu from the penalty spot.
The home side responded almost immediately as another defender Ebube Duru scored from a well executed free kick two minutes later to take a 2-1 advantage into the break.
The second half was without any goal as the end ended 2-1 in favor of the home team who continued their unbeaten start to the season.
The victory also put the current champions top of group B with seven points after three games while Niger Tornadoes remained in third position on the log.
