The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) continued it’s round two actions on Thursday as Remo Stars, Bendel Insurance and Niger Tornadoes made it two wins from two this season while El Kanemi Warriors get first home win as the game between Sunshine Stars vs Rivers United and Shooting Stars vs Kwara United played draw.
Remo Stars picked up a 0-1 away win in Gombe state against Gombe United courtesy of Andy Okpe’s second league goal this campaign after the home side had earlier missed a penalty in the 54th minute of the encounter.
Gombe Utd have now lost at home for the first time since 2019 ending an unbeaten run of 24 consecutive home games (W18 D6) while Remo Stars moved to second in group A with the win.
After their opening day victory against Akwa United, Bendel Insurance continued their dream start to the season with a 2-1 home win against Plateau United in Benin.
The Benin Arsenal who made a return back to the NPFL after three years and seven months, struck first at home through Ismael Sekiri in the 53rd minute.
Plateau United then restored parity a minute just into the added time before HiFL star Imade Osehenkhoe scored the winner for Bendel Insurance two minutes later to move the host top of group A after the win.
Niger Tornadoes recorded their second consecutive victory in the league this season after coming off the back of a 2-0 away win against Wikki Tourist on matchday one.
The Niger based side defeated newcomers Doma United after an eight minute thunderbolt goal by forward Munir Idris.
The win puts Niger Tornadoes second on group B with six points from two games while Doma United remained in seventh position on the log.
El Kanemi Warriors were amongst the winners on the day, the side from northern Nigeria defeated Nasarawa united 2-1 to win their first home game of the season.
Goals from Alfa Igbudu and Zayyad Musa ok each half gave the home side a two nil league, a late goal from the away side through Onuche Ogbelu in the 90th minute wasn’t enough as El Kanemi picks first three points of the season while Nasarawa united lose two conservative league games.
The game between Sunshine Stars and champions Rivers United ended in a 1-1 draw while shooting stars of Ibadan also drew 0-0 at home to Kwara United in a southwestern derby.
