Remo Stars came out 2-0 winners over Shooting Stars in the first southwest derby of the 2022/2023 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) on Wednesday evening.
The matchday three encounter in group A at the Remo Stars stadium saw coach Gbenga Ogunbote return to his former club, Remo Stars with Shooting Stars after leaving the Ikenne based club a few months ago.
A game which was barren in the first half saw the hosts then struck first after a brilliant work from Andy Okpe who crossed for a white shirt to score his own goal at the hour mark.
Substitute Godwin Odibo who played for Ikorodu city FC then doubled the lead for the home team in the 70th minute after he was put through on goal and slotted underneath the goalkeeper to score his first goal of the season in his first start for his team.
The Ikenne based team then held on to maintain their 100% start to the season and go top of group A after the 2-0 win while they also extended their unbeaten run against their local rivals Shooting Stars to seven games since their first meeting in 2017.
Defeat leaves Shooting Stars ninth position in the group with two points from a possible nine.
Remo Star will travel to Benin to play high-flying Bendel Insurance who also sit on nine points in the group on a Matchday four fixture on Saturday, 28th January.
