Two rescheduled fixtures ahead of the election break were played in the Nigeria premier football league (NPFL) on Monday evening.
A Matchday nine fixture saw Kwara United fought back from a goal down to beat El Kanemi Warriors 2-1 while a late goal earned Bayelsa United a point against Rivers United 2-2 in Yenagoa, a fixture which was originally slated to hold on Matchday seven but was postponed due to Rivers United’s continental engagement.
After a very poor start to their new season in which they sacked the team’s technical crew, Kwara United picked up their first away win of the season after coming from a goal down to beat El Kanemi Warriors 2-1 in a group A Matchday nine fixture.
Nnaji David put the hosts ahead 20 minutes into the encounter at the El Kanemi Warriors sports center in Maiduguri as the Borno based club took a Gola lead into the break.
Jide Fatokun restored parity for the away side just on the hour mark before Godwin Oshagbemi’s strike sealed the victory for the harmony boys who picked up their second win of the season and the club’s first away victory.
Underfire Bayelsa United had to come back from behind twice to earn a point against reigning champions Rivers United 2-2 at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa in a rescheduled Matchday seven fixture on Monday evening.
Rivers United who defeated Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas 3-0 in a Caf confederation cup group stage fixture on Sunday took the lead through Chiamaka Madu 10 minutes before halftime.
The prosperity boys then leveled matters six minutes into the second half from midfielder Daniel Ekpo before Malachi Ohawuma gave the away side the lead for the second time.
Robert Mizo who was put on goal by his teammate then leveled the tie with a one on one finish in the 91st minute of four minutes added time as the host five games winless run continued.
The draw took Bayelsa United out of the relegation places in group B while the late goal means Rivers United failed to close the gap of league leader Lobi Stars who they are now four points adrift of whilst having played two games less.
