Bendel Insurance’s winning start came to an end with a goalless draw against Gombe United in NPFL Matchday six fixture in Benin City.
The Benin based club despite their brilliant form failed to go past a stubborn Gombe United who picked their first victory of the season against shooting stars last Matchday.
Before kickoff, a minute of silence was observed in honor of late Referee Kingsley.
Bendel Insurance who are the joint top scorers in the league with the league’s top scorer in Imade Osarenkhoe who featured for the full 90 couldn’t break a solid Gombe United defense at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.
The results extended Bendel Insurance’s lead at the top of group A to four points with the Benin Arsenal having played a game more then second place Remo Stars while Gombe United moved to sixth, seven points from six outings this season.
Elsewhere, Abia Warriors recorded a massive 2-4 away win over Dakkada FC in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state in the second of the two Matchday six fixtures played on Saturday evening.
Abia Warriors who lost to sunshine stars last time out went in front in the encounter on the 27th minute through Emmanuel Onu capitalized on a loose ball to get the opener for the away side who took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Three minutes after the start of the second half, Abia Warriors doubled their tally through John Peter in the 48th minute.
Emmanuel Ayoasi then pulled one back for the hosts just five minutes past the hour mark to keep the game within reach.
Felix Aniekwe made it three for the warriors with a long range strike in the 79th minute.
Aniekan Ekpe reduced the scoreline to 2-3 for the home team four minutes later before Monday Yakubu’s 90th minute strike sealed the victory for the away team who recorded their fourth victory of the season and moved leveled on points with second place Lobi stars in group B while Dakkada FC still remained in the relegation place after the defeat.
