Contrary to circulating rumours on social media regarding plans to reverse the creation of new emirates by the previous governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the current Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has clarified that no decision has been made yet regarding the new emirates. The Governor addressed the rumours through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa.
The rumours suggested that the Governor was preparing to present a bill to the state assembly for the amendment of the Kano Emirates Law. This proposed bill was said to aim at abolishing the additional four emirates, namely Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye, along with their first-class Emirs.
It should be noted that the National Leader of the NNPP, Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, had previously shared a viral video in which he stated that the incoming government of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf would reconsider the decisions made by the former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration. These decisions included the dethronement of the former Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as well as the creation of the new emirates.
