The United States have declared one Chidozie Collins Obasi wanted for alleged fraud.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) made the announcement on Friday, asking anyone who knows of his whereabouts to report him to the Bureau.
The statement said Mr. Obasi defrauded New York state of more than $30 million.
The statement read “Chidozie Collins Obasi of Nigeria is wanted for defrauding N.Y. State out of more than $30 million. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts should contact their local FBI office” and report or give valuable tips.
According to the Bureau, Mr. Obasi posed as a ventilator dealer at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to defraud New York State of over $31 million.
The statement on the website further said that if caught, Obasi will face 621 years in prison plus other forms of punishment.
“If caught and convicted, Obasi faces a maximum sentence of 621 years in prison, a five-year period of supervised release, and a $5,750,000 fine. Obasi also will be required to make full restitution of the more than $31,000,000 that he obtained by fraud,” it added.
