Nigerian-born British member of Parliament, Kemi Badenoch has been appointed Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade.
Her appointment was confirmed yesterday, as newly elected British Prime Minister, Liz Truss announced her cabinet members.
In July, Switch Nigeria reported that the 42-year-old indicated interest to run for the office of the British PM as a member of the Conservative Party, but was later disqualified after making it to the top five.
Badenoch entered the Commons as a Member of Parliament(MP) for Saffron Walden in 2017.
Kemi said on Tuesday after the announcements were made that she is “delighted to start my new job at @tradegovuk! Looking forward to unleashing Global Britain’s full potential so we can create more jobs, more growth and more opportunity across the UK.”
The Secretary of State is the Nigerian equivalent of Minister.
