The 2023 U17 African Cup of Nations kick-off on Saturday in Algeria but the first toughest game of the competition was played on Sunday between Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets and Junior Chipolopolo of Zambia.
Playing in Constantine, the 5-time World champions dominated the first period but the Zambian team frustrated all their efforts, denying them access to the goal.
Both sides hit the crossbar but Nigeria’s lads proved to be the better side as the half ended in a goalless draw.
The second half resumed with the Nigeria side still dominating the proceedings but the Zambia forwards are also posing a big threat to the Nigeria backline.
Favour Daniel put Nigeria ahead in the 77th minute after the Zambians favour to clear their line from a goal-mouth scramble.
The Nigeria side has the opportunity to put the game to rest in the 90th minute when they were awarded a penalty but they failed to convert the kick and the game ended 1-0.
