Popular comic skit maker, Debo Adedayo, best known as Mr. Macaroni has added his voice to the heavy condemnation trailing Thursday’s lynching of a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State over alleged blasphemy.
The student, simply identified as Deborah was accused of insulting Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and thereafter beaten to a pulp.
From a video clip of the incident, stones were hurled at the young lady by young boys. Some also used sticks and different objects to hit her.
When the victim fell to the ground unconsciously, the attackers gathered tyres around her before she was set ablaze.
Reacting to the incident, Mr. Macaroni took to his verified twitter account to demand that justice should be done to the victim.
He said, “Justice must be served!!! And it must be swiftly done!! If not, we would be enabling a society wherein religious extremists take law into their hand, kill and destroy. These acts should be highly condemned lest we add more tension and Chaos to a society already on the edge!!!”
He blamed the actions of the radicals who carried out the barbaric act on lack of consequences for actions in the society.
“This is what happens when there are no consequences for actions in the society. The government must wake up from their slumber!!,” he said.
The vocal skit maker also called on the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, to as a matter of urgency, swiftly address the issue.
“Governor @AWTambuwal this is happening in your state!!! Issues like this should be swiftly addressed. Nigerians already have it hard!! Killing and burning of people should not be added to the list!!!.”
This is not the first time Christians would be killed as a result of religious intolerance in northern Nigeria.
In 2007, a female teacher, Mrs Christiana was killed and set ablaze in Gombe State over accusation of tearing the Quran.
In 2016, an elderly woman, one Mrs Bridget Agbahime also was killed and set ablaze in Kano, over allegation of blasphemy.
