Former Nigerian midfielder, John Mikel Obi has announced his retirement from football.
The former Chelsea and Stoke City midfielder made this announcement on his verified Instagram account on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old wrote, “There is a saying that ‘All good things must come to an end,’ and for my professional football career, that day is today.
“I look back at the past 20 years of my career, and I must say that I am very satisfied with all that I was able to achieve and more importantly the humanity it has helped shape.”
John Obi Mikel won 91 caps for the Super Eagles in a period of 14 years, scoring 6 goals. He is one of few players to have played at almost all levels for Nigeria: U17, U20, the Super Eagles & the Olympics Team.
