On Tuesday, Bola Tinubu, the incoming president, was encouraged by the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria to reform the healthcare industry.
Dr Victor Makanjuola, MDCAN’s national president, made the request during the National Executive Council meeting’s opening ceremony in Jalingo, Taraba state.
According to Makanjuola, a significant issue facing the health industry is brain drain.
“This particular NEC meeting becomes even more important given that a new administration will be coming on board to run the affairs of our dear nation, it would be prudent to set the agenda in the health and medical education sectors for the new governments at all levels.
“The NEC will provide resolutions and recommendations that would be handy in engaging the political actors and policymakers on effective strategies for revamping our healthcare and medical education systems while stemming the tide of massive brain drain in the health sector.
“Furthermore, our current National Officers’ Committee is forging ahead with other relevant organizations to overcome the multitude of these challenges, including but not limited to appropriate remuneration for our members, perennial brain drain, the deteriorating standard of medical education, dearth of infrastructure in our hospitals, and generally unsatisfactory conditions of service, among other issues, “ he said.
