The presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi and his team were in Lagos ok Saturday to round up their campaigns ahead of the polls.
His running mate, Prof. Baba Yusuf Ahmed-Datti and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party governorship candidate for Lagos State, were also in attendance.
Aside the wives of Obi and Ahmed-Datti, Chief Ayo Adebanjo and P-square were also present.
Despite security issues and threats posed by touts allegedly sponsored by the opposition, the rally recorded massive turn-out, as Tafawa Balewa Square(TSB) was filled.
On the success of the rally which started at Alaba International Market in the morning, Peter Obi said “Our most profound and heartfelt appreciation goes to the People of Lagos State, the Obidient Family and especially the Lagos State LP-PCC and LOC members. Lagos has demonstrated why it is cosmopolitan and central to politics and good governance in Nigeria. Eko Oni Baje.”
Earlier, he had condemned the attacks on Obidients which led to at least four persons sustaining severe injuries.
Obi said, “I received reports that 4 members of the Obidient Family were attacked and injured in Lagos ahead of today’s rally. That incident, premeditated or not, is deeply troubling. Such act stands vehemently condemned.”
“We cannot continue to tolerate attacks on members of the political opposition, often fuelled by the incendiary rhetorics of political leaders. The new Nigeria that we seek is one founded on peace and justice, and the respect for the rule of law,” Obi said.
