Manchester City clinched a consecutive English Premier League title on Sunday evening, beating an Aston Villa side led by Liverpool to do so.
City had t grind out the result as two goals by Villa in both halves left the Citizens on the ropes. Matt Cash had opened the scoring for Gerrard’s men in the first half before former Liverpool man, Coutinho drove a low shot into Ederson’s goal before 70 minutes.
But it took Pep Guardiola’s men just 5 minutes of the game to turn the game on its head, scoring tree goals to claim all three points, between the 76th minute and the 81st minute.
Gundogan scored two either side of Rodri’s well taken goal. It was reminiscent of the 2012 last day win that saw City beat Queens Park Rangers at the Etihad to snatch the title from United.
Only this time it was Liverpool, who themselves only won their game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the death, with Salah and Robertson scoring two goals in the 84th and 89th minutes respectively to beat Lage’s men, after Sadio Mane’s 24th minute strike cancelled out Pedro Neto’s 3rd minute opener.
Come the start of next season, City will again take on Liverpool in the Community Shield. For now, and for the fourth time in five years, Manchester City are champions.
