Police in Bauchi have arrested one Usman Umar Nuhu for alleged culpable homicide.
The incident was made public on Thursday by the Command’s spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakil Mohammed. He told newsmen that Usman who is 40 years old and resides in Dangarfa Village in Kyata Burra District, shot and killed his first wife after mistaking her for an intruder.
The suspect confessed that there has been a dispute between his eldest son and his two wives, with the son threatening to harm his father(Usman).
The threat made Mr. Usman to be on alert with his loaded dane gun. It happened that on that fateful day, the deceased whose name was given as Ladi Nuhu was on her way back from the rest room when she received a gunshot wound in her tummy.
She later died at the nearby hospital she was rushed to. The husband said he thought it was his intruder son.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect slept same room with his wife (Deceased) that night, the suspect had two wives and six children,” the statement read.
“That there was an altercation between the wives, to the extent that the eldest son holds grudges against the father and threatened to harm him.
“Prior to that incident, the eldest son threatened the father. This made the suspect load his Dane gun and kept beside him throughout the night waiting for the intruder, possibly his eldest son.”
“Investigation revealed that on the 28th December 2022 at about 0200hrs while he was sleeping in the same room with his wife Ladi Nuhu ‘f’ aged 37yrs of the same address she went out of the room to ease herself.
