In what could be a bitter blow for Real Madrid, midfielder Luka Modric is injured and ruled out of Copa del Rey final against CA Osasuna. His availability for the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg versus Manchester City is also uncertain
The Balon Dior winner was seen icing his left thigh after coming off in the second half against Girona earlier this week. It was reported that the issue was not serious and that the 37-year-old would be ready in time for the big games next month.
However, it seems that Modric’s discomfort has only grown worse over the past few days, and tests have reportedly revealed a tear in his hamstring, which will sideline him two weeks.
“Luka Modrić is injuried. We don’t know when he will be back, we will see for the Copa del Rey final — we don’t know”.
“We’re sad, I hope he will return very soon,” Club’s Manager Carlos Ancelloti confirmed.
This rules out his availability for the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna, while his involvement in the UCL semi-final versus Manchester City is also up in the air.
It also essentially means that Modric will miss tomorrow’s La Liga game against CA Osasuna as well as the encounter against Real Sociedad next week.
This comes as a bitter blow for Real Madrid at a crucial juncture of the season. Despite his age, Modric remains a top player and a key part of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Going into two pivotal fixtures, possibly the biggest of the season, without him could be a major cause of concern.
