Liverpool beat Manchester City on Saturday evening to clinch the Community Shield.
The Shield which is more or less a friendly game, played to kick off the new season and which is usually a contest between the Premier League winner and the FA Cup winner, was played at the King Power Stadium.
This was because the usual venue of Wembley Stadium is being prepared for the UEFA Women’s Euro Final between England and Germany.
Trent Alexander Arnold opened the scoring with a lovely volley early on, as big money signing, Erling Haaland failed to finish the few chances he was afforded to draw his side back into the game. However, new signing and substitute, Alvarez scrambled in an equaliser after a VAR check in the second half.
However, Liverpool took the lead again, this time through Salah’s penalty, after a headed down ball by new signing and substitute, Darwin Nunez was handled by Cancelo in the box.
Darwin would again score Liverpool’s 3rd, after Robertson headed down a fine Mo Salah cross.
This is Liverpool’s 16th Community Shield, their first since Rafa Benitez last won it in 2005/2006, and the trophy that Jurgen Klopp had not won since joining Liverpool, well not anymore.
