Ahmad Lawan, the ex-Senate President, has urged the federal government to alleviate the challenges faced by people in the country due to the elimination of fuel subsidy.
Lawan made this plea on Saturday while distributing rice and millet to 9,000 vulnerable individuals, including orphans, widows, and members of the Muslim and Christian communities, in Gashua. This town serves as the administrative center of the Bade Local Government Area in Yobe State.
He expressed concern that the federal government’s decision to eliminate fuel subsidy could exacerbate poverty nationwide. He called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and affluent individuals to support those who are vulnerable, disabled, and underprivileged. He noted that certain individuals struggle to provide three meals a day for their families, and some even go without anything to cook for their families for up to two days.
Lawan mentioned that the distribution of grains aimed to provide relief and alleviate the prevailing hardships across the country.
